In this privacy statement sensitive personal information is used to refer to personal information that contains information or an opinion about specific characteristics of an individual including:

- Information you have provided in connection with applications for regulatory approvals, including supporting information required for the Authority to assess applications, make decisions, and manage related enquiries.

Why the Authority collects and uses your personal information
The Authority collects and uses your personal information to perform its powers, functions and activities, including for the following purposes:
- Administering legislation, specifically the Western Australian Meat Industry Authority Act 1976 and the Western Australian Meat Industry Authority Regulations 1985, including for the issuing of regulatory approvals. We collect personal information from applicants seeking or holding abattoir regulatory approvals for the purpose of compliance with legislated requirements.
- Managing reports made to the Authority relating to potential offences under the Act or breaches of the Regulations. For example, the Authority may collect personal information from a person making a report to support an investigation, or appropriate compliance management, or enforcement action.
- Safely and effectively operating the Muchea Livestock Centre, including collection of person information from:

- site induction registrations to ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety legislation.
- CCTV footage for security, safety, and facility protection.
- individuals who transact livestock through the facility in order to ensure compliance with biosecurity legislation e.g property information codes.
- authorised agents and users to enable service delivery and ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements
- Managing reports relating to animal welfare and biosecurity matters at the Muchea Livestock Centre. For example, the Authority may collect personal information from a person making a report to enable appropriate follow-up and incident management.
Remaining anonymous
In certain circumstances, you may choose to remain anonymous when interacting with the Authority, unless personal information is required to carry out its functions. For example, personal information may be required when investigating potential offences under the legislation administered by the Authority or when assessing eligibility for a regulatory approval or other authorisation.
Disclosure of your personal information
The Authority endeavours to not disclose personal information for purposes other than the primary purpose for which it was originally collected except in some specified circumstances such as:
- where you have consented to disclosure for a secondary purpose, different to the one which you had originally agreed to;
- where the secondary disclosure is authorised or required by law;
- where the Authority believes the secondary disclosure is necessary for such things as law enforcement activities or managing public safety;

The Authority holds personal information in a range of electronic, paper based and audio-visual records (including in cloud-based applications and services). We take reasonable steps to ensure the personal information we collect is held in a safe and secure manner to protect personal information from:

- changes;
- misuse; and
- loss and harm.
Personal information that we hold is managed securely through our record-keeping systems. We ensure that we safeguard our IT systems against unauthorised access and physically secure our paper-based files in on-site or off-site locations.
The Authority complies with the WA Government Cyber Security Policy, related security standards, and risk management practices.
We also ensure that we appropriately control staff access to personal information within our systems.
Retention and destruction
The Authority will comply with all legal requirements in relation to the retention and destruction of records containing personal information, including information management requirements in the State Records Act 2000 and the State Records Commission Standards.
When personal information is no longer required to be retained, we will delete or destroy it in accordance with the approved Retention and Disposal Authority and the Authority’s Recordkeeping Plan.
